Owen Barfield (1898–1997) was a close friend of C.S. Lewis and a member of The Inklings, a group which also included J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams among other literary luminaries. He was a prolific author throughout his long life, and was known as a philosopher of the “evolution of consciousness,” a great reader of S.T.
